Color Lookup Tool

Here's a quick tool to tell you the genes you need for a specific color. Just select an option from one, two, or all three of the options below and hit "Look it up!"

The base color dropdown contains all of the normal horse colors, without additional white markings, ex: Buckskin, Palomino, Gray. It also includes dilutions that have special names, ex: Grullo, Blue Roan, Dunskin.

The dilution list contains the Dun, Silver, and Champagne dilutions that can work on any of the base colors. It also includes Roan, which is actually a white marking, because Roan can be combined with other white markings. Use this if you'd like to know the genes that make up rarer combinations like Palomino Dun, or Grullo with Champagne. Check as many as you want to apply!

The white markings dropdown adds on white markings to the color established by the first two dropdowns, ex: Leopard Appaloosa, Tovero, Splashed White.

An example of using this tool: If you want to know what genes produce a Grullo Splash horse, then select Black in the first dropdown, Dun in the second, and Splash in the third! Or select Grullo in the first, leave the second blank, and select Splash in the third.
