Prism Guide |
How to Use PrismBelow is a step-by-step guide to using Prism! If you have any questions, you're more than welcome to Contact Mango for clarification. 1. Pick a breed.
2. Prism Generator - Give each horse a color.
3. Save each horse's genetics.
4. Breeding Prism - Breed your colored horses.
Prism ChallengesThis part of the guide will be updated as more challenges come to mind or are suggested by players! There are many different ways to use the Prism program to enhance your gameplay experience on Horse Phenomena. For those players who like to add more immersion and realism to their gameplay, Prism can offer additional goals to breed for, or more of a challenge in how you use the program. The thing that makes Prism for everyone is how flexible it can be - each player can customize how they use their color genetics. Below are some ideas on how to challenge yourself or add to your color genetics experience based on how you use Prism. Keep in mind that these challenges are completely optional. Prism users are by no means required to participate in these challenges, and the challenges are in no way "rules for use" of the program. The challenges are here for players who like to do more than fill in the Color field on their horses pages, and who are looking for ways to add complexity to HP's gameplay. Line Color Challenge - MildThe Line Color Challenge asks you to set a color goal for your lines. For each line, set a color and/or white pattern that you'd like all future foals from that line to display. For example, say you decide you want Line A to be a Buckskin line. Therefore, you'll want to keep foals from that line that are Buckskin (or carry the genes that create the Buckskin color) and remove foals that are not. Depending on how you use Prism and any other challenges you participate in, this challenge can be a long-term one - it can span multiple generations of handpicked horses until eventually, all foals born in that line will always display your chosen Line Color. Tips for this challenge:
True Breeding Challenge - ToughThis challenge applies to how you use the Breeding Prism. The True Breeding Challenge requires that you use the first genetic profile for the foal that you generate. This means you should not refresh or hit "Breed" multiple times until you get the genetics you want for your foal. If the first genetic profile doesn't give you the color or genes you want in a foal from those parents, you'll probably have to breed multiple foals. This challenge encourages Prism breeders to sell foals and mix lines in order to increase the available genetic pool for that breed on HP. Breeders may sell foals with unwanted colors or genes, or buy foals from other breeders that have desirable colors or genes. Mango participates in this challenge! All of her Prism breeds will be True Bred and she will sell her Prism foals that don't have the genes she's looking for. She will also buy foals from other Prism breeders that do have the genes she's looking for. Tips for this challenge:
If your breed is true bred, you can put the badge below on your page! How to use the Prism GeneratorThe Prism Generator is used to create a set of genetics for a horse. Each gene is randomly generated, and the combination of those genes creates a coat color. Using the default settings for the Prism Generator requires only that you select a color type and hit "Generate." Color TypesThere are four color types that the generator can create, based on the white markings you'd like your horse to have. Normal colored horses can be any base color with no white markings. The genetics generated by the Prism Generator will create any combo of base and dilution genes, but will not assign your horse any white marking genes. Paint colored horses can be any base color with paint white markings. In addition to any combo of base and dilution genes, the generator will assign your horse paint genes. These are the MITF, Frame, and Kit genes. Paint markings are Splashed White (from the MITF gene), Overo (from the Frame gene), and Tobiano (from the Kit gene). Using this color type will not generate any appaloosa white markings. Appaloosa colored horses can be any base color with appaloosa white markings. In addition to any combo of base and dilution genes, the generator will assign your horse appaloosa genes. These are the Leopard, Pattern-1, and Pattern genes. The type of appaloosa markings are controlled by different combinations of these three genes, and the possible appaloosa markings are Blanket, Leopard, Fewspot, Snowcap, Snowflake, Varnish Roan, and Solid White. Using this color type will not generate any paint white markings. Pintaloosa colored horses can be any base color with any white markings. The genetics generated by the Prism Generator will create any combo of base and dilution genes, and will also generate both types of white markings. In order to decide which color type to use, it's important to know what kind of colors your horse's breed can display. For example, Tennessee Walking Horses can be Normal and Paint, but not Appaloosa. Paint Horses can't have Appaloosa markings, and Appaloosas can't have Paint markings. Pintaloosas can be Normal, Paint, Appaloosa, or Pintaloosa. Gene InfluencingGene Influencing is a more advanced function of the Prism Generator. Selecting this option will allow you to pick what genes you'd like your horse to have, while leaving others up to chance. You can use this option if you know that your horse's breed has a common gene or color. For example, all Norwegian Fjords carry the Dun gene, and Splashed White is common among Abaco Barbs. To use Gene Influencing, you must select the "Gene Influencing" option below the Color Type section. A complete list of current genes in the Prism program will be displayed, and you can select which genes you would like to be included in the genetic profile. Once your desired genes have been selected, hit "Generate!" The genes you select will be generated either homozygous or heterozygous dominant, guaranteeing that your horse will display that gene. For example, selecting Dun will guarantee your horse will have either D/D or D/d in its genetic profile. Selecting Pearl will guarantee your horse will have pl/pl. Any genes you do not select will be randomly generated. So even if you don't select Cream, there's still a chance your horse will have that gene in addition to the ones you select. Using gene influencing, you can override the original color type rules. You can select Normal color type and then select the Tobiano gene, and your horse will be given a Tobiano Paint color. However, it is recommended that you still select your desired color type when using gene influencing, because any genes you don't select will be randomly assigned based on the color type. |
